Opportunity for exterior Historic Preservation Easements, as none exist thus far. The history researched in the Buildings of Charleston, Jonathan Poston calls 75 and 79 Ashley Avenue the Daniel Fairchild Houses and places a construction date of ca. 1842. He then writes that ''The present dwelling at 79 Ashley Avenue is the second house built by Daniel Fairchild to stand on this lot. A previous dwelling, a three-story weatherboarded single house, was constructed shortly after acquisition of the lot in 1830. This house was shifted in the 1840s to make way for the present three-story stuccoed brick residence. The original house now at 75 Ashley Avenue retains its exterior features including a unique door architrave, which consist of Ionic pilasters supporting a carved wooden frieze featuring Grecian style acanthus leaves.'' Other sources solidify the idea that the house at 75 Ashley was moved to its current location. However, it has been referenced as result of oral history with the Fairchild family. A quick fact check at the Register of Mesne Coneyance office produced similar findings. It appears as though the property was purchased by Daniel Fairchild in 1838. This record seems to point to the idea that the current house at 75 Ashley was built and moved between 1838 when he purchased the property and 1842 when he began preparation for the construction of the brick house at 79 Ashley.
